Photography Journeys with a difference

What motivates me has a lot to do with how humans live, how humans live together – what it is to be human. And what fascinates me is the sort of insight and information that I receive from the nature of the space, and this has to be the case before I am able to do anything about this space. In general, my work is less about expanding the possibilities of photography than about re-investing it with a truer perception of things by returning to a simple method, one that photography has had from the beginning of its existence…

Creative Photography

As a photographer I am a wanderer, exploring the land, sea and the people whom I meet on my Journeys. These are my creative muses and I become a scribe creating images that expose , giving up secrets that go beyond the first layer when looking at each image and I hope goes beyond documenting.

For me I find my work is intuitive I try to keep my intellect from interfering so that it is a natural process and the essence of something finds me. Working this way helps me celebrate the life I love and the beauty I know and have experienced, evoke a sense of wonder and mystery and give a feeling of looking at a hidden view of world we don't normally see.

My photography is fueled by the desire to partake in the stories that unfold around me. The stories that are not at first obvious, but show the relationship of man, of nature, affirming the beauty of the world and nature offers an infinity of views and changing light. It is my hope that some of my photographs have given people the visual experience close to poetry. Having written poetry in the past I feel it’s a similar process for me. You see the choice of subjects come often from a place of intuition and come to me, a bit like the way a poem comes into being.

Film

My film work is mostly commision to date wither music videos or Performance art work. For these I am taking direction from someone like an art director who has already conceptualized a film based on the clients branding strategy and target audience, and my job is to create short films based on this direction.

As a Director of photography I am responsible for the photographic heart of a production. I read the screenplay/script and work closely with the director to discuss the look and feel of a film. They then research how to create the look through lighting, framing and camera movement and what they will need in terms of kit and crew to achieve this. The images are also used as part of the marketing of each production.

I have also created art reel films of my own direction of which I am exploring more concepts.
