Wild Swans Festival of Performance Art - Forgotten Spaces By International performance Artists
'Wild Swans Festival of Performance Art Donegal took place in Spain and Fanad, Co. Donegal in August 2020 with performances given by International performance artists. This part of the project is an introduction to performance art in the North West of Ireland. It acts as a portal into and across a threshold of performance art making it accessible to a wider general audience here in Donegal. It presents public performances and the documentation of these performances to Donegal audiences via the Regional Cultural Centre online Platform. The project has a two pronged approach, firstly, presenting performances in public spaces and documenting them, thereby introducing performance art to the general public on an online platform. Secondly, editing this documentation into shortened video clips that can be presented at a later date for a public screening in a gallery space. This is the first performance art small festival to take place in Donegal and offers an opportunity to those who want to engage with performance art and sows the seeds for further engagement. The festival develops and explores artistic expression in performance art through solo and a group performance art with artists from Spain Donegal Derry/Londonderry and Belfast including Bbeyond artists. The festival explores ‘Art is Life, Life is Art’ which promotes trust, creates openness and demonstrates how performance art is a contemporary art form that suits the needs of human diversity and expressions of freedom. It also explores ‘Forgotten Places ‘ in this time of isolation and a sense of place. '
